One Dollar For George

Mission Accomplished!

Well, it was February of 2009 when we launched the onedollarforgeorge effort. It takes a while to raise that kind of money one dollar at a time (especially when there are PayPal Fees involved) but thanks to the generous donations of many people, and special thanks to Scenario Custom Scenery for donating enough to get us over the last little hump, George has his new Mundo! We set him up with a six speed model. He was REALLY excited about it and very grateful. Naturally, he wasn't going to part with the bike he had been riding (the rear rack was made of rotting wood, duct tape, and pipe clamps and the seat post clamp was an old pair of vice grips) so he towed it home.

George Sighting!

It's been a LONG time since we have seen George. In fact we were beginning to get a bit worried. But, I saw him carrying a load of cans down Murphy on Monday 9/22. I talked with him a bit and decided to let him know what we were up to. I showed him a picture of a Mundo and he liked what he saw.

We are about $150 away from what we need to get George on his Mundo! (It won't outfitted exactly the way we had hoped but we can work on that later) It would be a great help if folks would help spread the word so we can push to the finish line. Please tell your friends and family about our efforts and let's get George on a Mundo by Nov. 1st! Remember, Paypal takes 1/3 of every one-dollar donation, So, it's far more cost effective if folks pool together and send larger donations. Cash and checks provide the most cost effective way for us to receive donations. But, larger donations through Paypal also improve on our net gains. Spread the word!

The Beltline Bikeshop

We've been receiving some generous donations lately from folks who have found us through posts on The Beltline Bike Shoop's blog. The Beltline Bike Shop is a place where urban youth can come to earn a bike or fix up their existing one. Not only have they helped George, since May 2009 The Beltline Bike Shop has given away 63 Bikes, repaired 272 Bikes, removed 441 bags of trash from the streets and removed 1000+ Tires from SW Atlanta. They're doing great things in an area that needs great things. Please help to support their efforts!

Did you know that it takes about 33 aluminum cans to make one pound of scrap aluminum? The going rate for aluminum at last check was 30¢ per pound. This means that George must collect a little over one hundred cans to earn one dollar. Or, one click of our "donate" button.
