We've been using the shop's Mundo to haul our order shipments. We cleverly call her "Bluesy Monday" because... she was built on a Monday and, well, she's blue. We added Nightwing tires, Zefal Paragon fenders and Eastern C.R.F.P pedals to her and we run 18 speeds. It's really quite amazing how easy it is to haul loads with this bike.
What you see pictured is our Mundo loaded with an Eastern Lowdown. The box weighs about 35 lbs. The bike rides quite well even with the load hanging off the back of the bike by 18 inches or so. The Herbie Bi-pod is handy but, don't let the picture mislead you, it only holds the bike up if your load is balanced (we have a loaded messenger bag on the other side of this bike). But the bike handles well even if you don't balance your load. Depending on weight distribution, crosswinds, and riding speed there can be some tail wag felt with and extended load but, to date, it hasn't felt unsafe. We've been able to fit it into most MARTA (public transit in Atlanta) elevators while hauling bike boxes. Escalators work too. The first attempt on an escalator felt a bit scary. Going up made the front of the bike want to rock upward but the box stopped it from tipping back too far. Once the rear wheel settled onto a step it felt stable. Especially with the brakes applied. We did run into one security guard at a downtown hi-rise that had some sort of mental block about the bike going onto a freight elevator to reach FedEx on the second floor, that she just couldn't get past, but that's an isolated incident. Most folks love to see the Mundo at work.
The Mundo is not only handy but sturdy as well. When you put it to work the rack takes it's share of bangs and scrapes and the finish holds up well against the wear. We've noticed no creaking or other such sounds of pain coming from the frame or wheels to date either.
The Mundo fills it's niche in the bicycle world perfectly. It's versatile, affordable, extremely useful, and is just plain fun to have. The low top tube height and long seat post make the bike easy to share among family members or employees.
